Watched: The cousins fall into a rhythm like they have always been together and it hasn’t been six months in between seeing each other for most of them and almost a year since they were all together. We went to Cow Town at Keegan’s request. It is a replica 1860s era Wichita. I’m not sure why he wanted to go, but he did and so he convinced everyone else to go too. We spent a couple of hours and I can’t say anyone loved it, but at least it got them out of the house doing something that wasn’t battling each other in Super Smash Bros. Of course, we had to stop at Braum’s. They also played a bit of football and then spent the night at Rachel’s. I think they had a blast over there too.
Read: I continued to make progress on Other People's Houses. It isn't drawing me quickly, but I am still liking the story. I did decide to start on the audiobook of King's Cage and for whatever reason, it just struck a cord with me. Sometimes books are just there for you when you need them to be. That was the case for me for this book. It just hit a spot I needed. It isn’t particularly great writing or all that wonderful of a story. It is slightly better than the last two because there wasn’t the constant repetitiveness of sayings. I’ll be picking up the next book in the series although probably not any time soon. I decided since I had read every other book in the series, I probably should add the two novellas to my list and I started working on them, but didn't make it very far.

Listened: To both tears and laughter when we tried out Exploding Kittens. Angelo was playing with something called TacoCat and when I asked where it came from, I got introduced to the game Exploding Kittens. I knew it seemed perfect for the cousins and so we played it on Saturday night. It is a great game. I think you need a large group of people to play it with for it to be really fun. We actually had to use two packs since there were 8 of us playing. It made for a nice ending to our trip. Even though it was almost midnight by the time we wrapped it up, the cousins still decided to squeeze in a game of Catan. I love that they all like to play board games too.

Made: The trip to the water park on Saturday night. Poor Angelo didn’t enjoy the water at all. Luckily he was able to get a nap in. The big kids all seemed to have a good time. I liked the lazy river best.

Felt: So happy getting to love on my littlest nephew. He’s such a happy little guy who is always smiling and giggling. He snuggles when he’s sleepy and I even got to rock him to bed one night. There is something so peaceful about having that heavy weight of sleeping child snuggled in against you. Jack really enjoys playing with him and making him smile too.

Loved: Watching Jack at his scrimmages on Monday of his Bill Self camp. It was weird that they put the hoops on nine feet as you could tell most of the kids were used to the 10’ hoop. The kids were amazed with all the players walking around and Jack even got to take his picture with DeSousa. According to the roster he is 6’9” and that makes for a very tall kid. We dropped him off at the camp after walking around campus on Sunday. He and Nick took a picture by the brick we gave Nick for Father’s Day a couple of years ago. We picked him up on Wednesday and watched some more scrimmages where his team won the tournament that was running that day. We also picked up his picture with Devante Graham and he chose to spend some of his camp money on getting leg wraps. I think he did okay away, but he wasn’t a fan of 6:00-6:30 wakes up he was given after an 11:00 lights out.

Watched: Jack do the floss a lot. He’s getting better at it and it’s kind of becoming a victory dance of sorts. He wasn’t ever able to use it at knockout because he always lost the games, but I think he still enjoyed playing them anyway.

Read: I finally finished up The Handmaid's Tale. After I finished up I was trying to figure out what just happened. Did I really commit 11 days to a book to have no idea what really happened? I don’t mind having to guess a little, but it seemed like the book dropped off at the climax. I thought it was crazy how many of the points still rang true, so many years after writing it. Maybe it’s a sign that level headedness will continue to prevail even if it seems like the extremists get too much talking time. I then took on a book of short stories entitled What We Talk About When Talk About Love. I’m not sure how this was up for a Pulitzer Prize. I’m not sure how it rates so high on Goodreads. I’m not sure how it ever got on a list of recommendations that I trusted. I made it through the whole book and basically just wondered what the hell I had wasted my time on. Not a book I would recommend to anyone. Next, I started Other People's Houses. I read another book by this author and I really liked it. I am hoping this one doesn't disappoint after my last two books.

Listened: To a lot of classic Mario sounds. Jack is intent that he will conquer it this summer. He said he wishes he grew up in a time when video games were simple. It made us watch Pixels because it feautured a lot of those early games. We downloaded the original Donkey Kong too.

Made: A plan for trophy for the baseball season. I didn’t want another boring trophy, so I ended up going with a baseball holder that each kid will sign and then will go inside the holder. I think it will be a lot of fun. Now it’s just getting parents to respond which is always the trickiest part.

Felt: Sad leaving Nora for a couple of weeks. I am thankful that my Alliance family could pitch in to watch her. With us not coming back to Colorado Springs, they offered to take keep her. I also got lucky in that Comicon was in Denver the weekend of the 15th and so they offered to drive her home to me too.

Planned: On not liking the game that I bought many moons ago for a gag gift for my brother. We had went in to get him an Xbox and didn’t want him to open it early so we gave him a lot of other things from the thrift store. The game Ringzz was one of them. It’s been sitting on a shelf in my mom’s basement for over a decade. We all ended up liking it and sent it home with him because it’s one of those rare two player games that doesn’t need modified to be able to play.

Watched: Jack have a great time playing with my family. We decided to go to Alliance for a little over a week. The day we arrived he conned Grandma into a game of Wet Head. It was refreshing after the long drive. She also claimed that her cup had a hole in it and it drained her drink, but we couldn’t see evidence and thought she just hadn’t gotten enough sleep. We went on a nature A-Z walk in town too. We realized then that we didn’t have a football, so we had a to right that situation the next day. All the cheap ones just felt gross and weird, so we went with a nice junior size Nike one. I was surprised they had such a nice football in Alliance. We also spent a couple mornings in town playing basketball and racquetball at the Rec center and getting Zestos. You will see a picture of my mom cracking up with her finger on her cup. It turns out that hole was there after all. Even though she continued to use it for a few days, one night we were playing games and it sprung a giant hole that arched like a water fountain. We all got a good laugh out of it. Later that night I asked for some pepto. She brings out a bottle that was best bye March 2008. We all laughed hard at that too. I actually decided to go ahead and try it. As you can tell, I’m still standing and it seemed to work somewhat effectively too.

Read: I continued to work on The Handmaid's Tale, but I couldn't force myself to get through it. I am surprised that there is a popular TV show based off it.

Listened: To the coach beg for a team mom for baseball. I wasn’t going to do it, but since no one else signed up, I guess I am in. I did get a free T-shirt and hat out of the deal, so there is that.

Made: My mom’s annual Mother’s Day present. I love this tradition as it is fun to see how much he changes every year and what he likes at the moment. Since I’m so behind in blogging, I am actually able to post the picture that we used since she already has it.

Felt: Proud of Jack for having an awesome 4th grade year. He continues to grow in his academic skills. He has stayed a kind kid with a generous heart. We are really going to miss his teacher as she is taking a job in another district so that she can become a Talented and Gifted Teacher. They are lucky to have her. We celebrated the end of the year by picking up his friend Luke, having slurpees, and playing Wet Head. I played 6 rounds with them and then I let them go at it.

Planned: On painting the fence quickly so that we could get into compliance with our HOA before we left on our trip. It was anything but quick. It was messy, full of spills and drips, but thanks to my friend Gretchen and our neighbor, it was done in one night. I will admit, it does look much better now.

Loved: Attending Jack’s end of season football party. His coaches always have such nice things to say about him. This season instead of being given trophies, the coach had jerseys made for them. I thought that was really cool. They also got to play a lot of dodgeball, including a couple rounds of kids vs parents. I got a couple kids out each time before I was taken out. We also received his pictures that day and I thought they turned out really well too.
Read: I started in on The Handmaid’s Tale. It is part of my banned book challenge. I am not at all surprised that it was banned so the heavy nature of the sexual scenes that are described in the book. I didn’t get it finished, but I will need to next before it is returned to the library. I waited almost 6 months for this copy to come off hold. Don’t want to do that again.

Made: Fun of my brother’s dislike for June Bugs. The picture really sums up his feelings on them.

Felt: Grateful that my boys celebrated me so well on Mother’s Day. Jack gave me a new digital clock that projects onto the ceiling. He also made me a fun card and poem at school. He knows my history with plants, so he even made on of the flowers dead inside the pit. Nick made me smoked sausages and fruit salad. He took Jack out for a ride in his bike. Jack came up with a pretty clever way for him to have a helmet.

A change is coming. Things are just getting a little overwhelming here and I don’t think I’m going to be able to honor my old blog system. I will now post whatever pictures from the week along with their story in whatever category it falls in. I will also continue to post my reading progress here. Hopefully it won’t be too much of a disappointment.

Watched: Jack change his mind about running the mile over the 800m. The girl from his wrestling club who came the first race, ended up coming and was running the mile. I think he wanted to be in the same race as her, so he decided to run it to. He had a good time at a little under 8 minutes. He was pretty exhausted by the end of it as it was warm and he wasn’t quite prepared for it. This is the first spring season of Landsharks that all three races were able to go on as scheduled and we didn’t have to run on Mother’s Day.

Read: I continued to work The Oracle Year. I also started and finished Ruby Holler. This another Battle Book that Jack asked me to pick up so that we could discuss it. I thought it was a good story, but I was a bit surprised with the ending. I was hoping for more of a conclusion than I got. I will be glad to talk about it with Jack once he finishes it with his class.

Listened: To Jack perform his trick in which he tried to take a bit of John Oliver (from Last Week Tonight) on. I am excited to see what trick he comes up with for his 5th grade year. You can watch his performance HERE.

Made: It to 200,000 miles with my car. We’ve owned the car for 12 years now and I’m proud of our ability to maintain and it and keep it going.

Planned: The display case for the visual art that we did to go along with Talent Show this year. There were a lot of fun submissions and I liked that we were able to showcase a different group of kids too!

Loved: Watching Jack finally get to take his spot in the D end. He has been telling the coach that corner isn’t a good spot for him and they finally listened. He is really able to use his speed to get between the bigger guys and make some hits. For his make up game, he had a pair of surprise visitors with the Millers and Katie and Jonathan coming to watch him.

Watched: Jack score a touchdown. He apparently slightly fumbled the snap and when he went for the hand off, he saw that hole was wide open so he just ran through it. He ran like the wind and scored a touchdown. It was a good morale lifter for him because he had missed a couple big tackles in the game and was feeling pretty bummed about it. His team did a nice job of supporting him after the touchdown too.

Read: I didn't really focus to much on reading this week. I made a little bit of progress in The Oracle Year, but not much else. I know that I am going to have a bunch of books coming off hold so I need to get myself in gear.

Listened: Compliments on the yearbook. It was delivered by our May PTA meeting so I was able to give a sneak peek to the people who were in attendance and it was well received. One of the kids there just kept looking through the pictures again and again. I am glad that it made so many people happy to have a great yearbook. I am looking forward to doing next year's too. It's hard to believe that he will be a 5th grader next year and then it will be all done doing yearbooks for me.

Made: A delicious salad that I need to remember to make more often. It had marinated shrimp, warmed bacon bits on a mixed bed of greens with a vinaigrette. It wasn't very hard and it turned out really satisfying.

Felt: Bad for buying something off my birthday wishlist that I sent my mom. I totally forgot that I had put curtains on there when I bought the curtains for myself. I really liked the pair that I had picked out for her to give me too. I didn't get a chance to hang them up yet, but I can't wait to see how they look. Now I will have curtains for two different seasons!

Planned: On the guys just making the repair to the sprinkler system that Ryan and his friend noted when they blew them out for us. However, it turned into a lot larger project. They ended up installing a WiFi enabled sprinkler system that allows me to adjust the sprinkler my phone. It will also attempt to delay the cycles based on the water. It is pretty neat. Because of the water saving properties, our utility company does a 50% rebate on the cost as credit on your water bill.

Loved: Spending time with my mom and Nick. They were both able to arrive on Thursday, so we could got to spend an extra day together. My mom brought me down a birthday cake that was super yummy and some great birthday presents. She brought me a new dimmable lamp for when I am reading and don't want to wake anyone up, new curtains (you've already read that story), and Ticket to Ride. We played several games of Catan and Ticket to Ride. We also played some Around the World in basketball. I really love having all my family close together.

Watched: Schitt’s Creek. This also made my list from recommendation's from friends and I find it quite hilarious. It is pretty short for a TV series at only 13 hours so I think I will wrap it up rather quickly. I didn't have much on the to-do list this week so I think that I spent a bit more time watching than I normally would have.

Read: I read All the Bright Places this wee<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">k. A moving YA book about loss, love, and growth. I am glad that the story was told from two different perspectives. I really wish that I could have a whole other book on young Finch. These two narrators experienced a lot of tragedy in their young lives. I thought when Amanda and Finch ran into each other, it seemed a little to forced. I know what the author was going for, but it fell flat to me and I think that part should have been left out. Next, I started The Oracle Year. It's the first book that came from my Book of the Month club that Nick gave me for my birthday.

Listened: Shattering glass. Jack was bouncing a basketball up in living room when heard what sounded like a giant crash below us. Turns out the vibration from all of ball bouncing and playing had loosened the cover on the light fixture in the basement. Oops! Guess we learned that we need to seal those in for future use! Jack as good and helped me clean it all up. I think he was surprised that I wasn't mad. It wasn't like he was doing something he shouldn't have.

Made: Final submission for the yearbook on Monday. I had to decide if I should order a lot extra and bump us up the next price range or if I shouldn't have a lot extras for people to buy from. Knowing the PHE families the way I do, I opted for extra. Hopefully enough of them sell that we bring the yearbook to at least a zero cost activity for the PTA. Who knows, it might even make some money?

Felt: Thankful for Nick. He came home from a long week and worked hard doing things around the house for me. He helped me changed the ugly vertical blinds to a curtain rod. He encouraged me to get new curtains for the bedroom because I was tired of living with the plain ones. He really works hard to provide for our family and I am thankful how he gives himself to us when he is home. We are very lucky.

Planned: Nick’s travel schedule for May. Or we at least guessed at it. I am thinking about making some sort of crazy long daisy chain that counts down the days until he should be back home for good. We are going into our 10 month of not being together on a regular basis and it really wearing on all of us. He is hoping that by the end of end of August, he will be done enough to be here. Its like 120 days away. That would be a might big chain!

Loved: The beautiful weather. We were able to nice football practices and football games. We got lots of playing outside done. Most excitingly, Jack decided that he was going to try riding his bike again and he decided that he actually liked it! For years I have tried and then without prompting he just suddenly decided to try and enjoyed it. He came so far so quickly. I guess he was just waiting to be ready! I even put out all my spring and summer outdoor decorations up.

Watched: Final Episode of Grace and Frankie. I have now committed myself to watching the entire thing and I can definitely say that I do not find it as funny as so many other people do. While it works for something to kill your time with that doesn't need full concentration, I wouldn't recommend it to others looking for something. I am sure I will watch the next season when it comes out, but I'm not sitting over here on pins and needles waiting for it to come out.

Read: I wrapped up Hunted. This book was hard for me to get into and then I had to pause it so that I could read a couple other books that had deadlines to them. However, once I began again I found myself enjoying it. I was a bit worried that in this retelling Beauty wasn’t going to find a giant library. I was glad when she did because that was always one of my favorite parts of the movie. If you like retellings of fairy tales, I think you’d enjoy this story. I am pretty close to finishing The Breakdown. It's another unreliable narrator story and I think I have pretty well figured out.

Listened: To a bunch of excuses from the teachers who were supposed to have the yearbook pages to me and from the one teacher on the the inside who decided she wanted this layout. She assured me that if the teachers didn't get them in that she would make sure went around to rooms and took them. Sadly, she wasn't able to hold up her end of the deal and wanted to just leave the pages blank. I can't do that to those classes. So I will go in Monday morning (and probably the rest of the day too) to get them all. I am glad that I really like what they add to the yearbook or I would be really frustrated instead of annoyed at the whole thing.

Made: Last yearbook layouts that I am responsible for. I think we put a lot more candids into this years book and I hope people love it just as much as they did last year. We have fewer orders this year which is frustrating. I remember how we sold out last year and so I am trying to decide if it's worth it to buy extra and sell them at a higher price. I have crunched some numbers and I will present my findings to the rest of the board before placing the final order on Monday. It's hard to think after Monday evening, it will all be over besides the delivery and final sales.

Felt: Surprised by people at talent show. I am not sure if I mentioned it before but I am in charge of the talent show from the PTA side. The first round of auditions was Wednesday. Jack did his act for the judges and I thought it went very well for him, but there were a lot of talent acts that performed. I am hoping his being a magic act and not another singing and dancing act will help boost him up. I also think that points should be deducted from people who didn't come prepared. Like one girl was singing the cup songs, but didn't bring any cups! Another was singing the states and asked me if I had large map of the US and a pointer. So many people that we were signing or dancing didn't bring any music at all. I was kind of blown away since it told you to come prepared for your act with your music on a CD preferably over a phone. I thought I was being nice bringing my portable speaker for them to have the option of having it on their own phone. However for at least 7 acts, I had to provide the music. Thank goodness Jack had a WiFi password and let me on. He will be at Landsharks for the one next Thursday, so I will have to him sign me in before he goes out.

Planned: On Mom coming down to watch Jack play some football but the forecast looked awful for snow. It went from 2-4" of snow one day, then 3-5" the next day, and then 5-8" the next day, back down to 3-5", and then settled on 1-3". While we all wanted to see her, we wanted her to be able to see Jack play football too, so we rescheduled for the first weekend in May. The game did up getting cancelled. I am sure it will be another middle of the week game which is a huge bummer for Nick since it is very hard for him to make those since he is needed in KC most weeks.

Loved: Eating at the Melting Pot during their endless fondue night for my late birthday celebration. The food is amazing but what I like better is how it is just a time to kick back and chill with the people you love. We had two and half hours of uninterrupted time from calls or texts. We came home and ended our night with some echo button games that work with the Alexa that Jack picked me out for my birthday. You have to buy additional components to be able to play them, but they have fun games like Trivial Pursuit. It can't seem to recognize Nick's voice very well and he gets slightly frustrated with it, but overall I think he has a good time. He more enjoys the game Horse Race where you have to just push the button.

Watched: Jack as QB during his team's first game. He and another boy got to each play a half. I tried to snap a photo of his first snap as QB. It's from my phone so it isn't great. I am getting some from my friend who took all the great photos for me last year. I think instead of putting them on my weekly blogs, I might do one special one that just highlights his season. They had some timing issues and they were frozen since it was in the low 30s and windy. He definitely isn't perfect, but he's really enjoying it. He missed a couple of tackles and one of them resulted in a touchdown, which bummed him out, but I think the team will have a good time together. They did end up with a win 8-6.

Read: I was able to finish up The Alice Network. I really enjoyed this historical fiction that spanned both World Wars. The characters draw you in quickly and the writing leaves you wanting to know more. A great read for any historical fiction fan. I have suggested it to a couple of people already and will be eager to know what they think of it. I was reading it with my girlfriend and she really loved it too. Since book club is meeting on Sunday, I had to quickly read Before I Go To Sleep. This an good thriller with a great unreliable narrator. I was pretty close on the “what’s the big twist” concept but I still liked reading through to make sure I was right. I think it will make for excellent discussion in my book club. I am going to try to finish up Hunted next week.

Listened: Hard sales pitch for a new car. As you know, my car left me stranded a couple of weeks ago and I just haven't been able to find another car I liked. On Friday, Nick spotted a Kia Optima that we both liked the looks of. It has good reviews everywhere and so we thought we should do a butts in the seat test. I have definitely found the next car that I will buy. It will just be a matter of when I can get the best price. Right now, I want more car than I want to afford. Maybe at around Christmas or when the 2019 models come out, I will be able to find a better deal. If my car doesn't make it before then I at least won't feel rushed into having to buy something that I don't really want. The sales guys weren't happy to see us walk away, but it what is is.

Made: A purchase for myself for my birthday. A fellow wrestling mom and Facebook friend posted a picture of a couple of cow paintings that she had done. They both reminded me so much of Laurie and I just felt happy (and a little sad and nostalgic) when see them that I wanted to have them. She ended up breaking up the set for me because I didn't want both of them. I treated myself to it and am happy each time I see it sitting in my office.

Felt: Good about the end-of-the-year wrestling party. We had too many subs (and it was kind of comical seeing me put them all in my car along with everything else I was taking to the party), but no one went hungry. A lot of awesome kids got a lot of awesome swag for their Champions of Character award and their hard work during the season. This is the first season that Jack didn't end with an end-of-season award but he still did get the highest level of Champions of Character thanks to what his head coach saw in him. I was also gifted an Amazon gift card for my work as team mom throughout the season. It is an amazing bunch of people to work with. We also went down to Dart Warz, which had some kinks if you were behind the scenes like I was, but was fun for all the kids, some of their siblings and parents too.

Planned: The layout of a few yearbook pages. It is almost deadline time and its fun seeing all the pages come together. We have a few pictures that will be coming in last minute, but the majority of should be done this week. I had a hard time trying to get a schedule where I could equally get all the specials divided up with each classroom getting a picture taken of them. I wasn't able to get two of them, but we will finish them up next Wednesday. I wish I could share it with all of you, but you will just have to wait for the book to be published and see it in person if you are really curious.

Loved: My birthday celebration. The day before my friend Mindy treated me to some Mexican at a new restaurant neither of us had tried. It was fun just to chat with a friend. Nick was not home on my actual birthday because I asked him to be home next week so we could enjoy the night of endless fondue that they are having at the Melting Pot. However, he did have beautiful flowers delivered to the door. I was shocked at how perfectly perfect they were. Jack and I went to football practice and then out for BBQ on my actual birthday. My friend Kelly stopped over to give me some chocolate cake and a card. When they were here, they accidentally dropped my gift off the railing between the library and the kitchen. He was very nervous it has broken and therefore made her nervous too. I was sure it was fine. Nick made it home on Thursday and we had round 2 of the celebration. Jack gifted me a (thankfully, non-broken Alexa) and Nick gifted me a subscription to the Book of the Month club. I went right out and picked my first book. I am will be so excited when it comes in. We also went out to eat again so I didn't have to cook or clean the kitchen again. It was a pretty wonderful time.

Watched: A couple more Grace and Frankie shows. It came highly recommend when I requested TV shows to watch. I don't love it, but it does pass the time when I am looking to just zone out for a little while. It's funny how I find myself such a mix between the two ladies. I am probably more of Grace than a Frankie. So often when I am watching the show, I think of the movie Big Business. I'm quite certain that is my favorite Lily Tomlin movie. I will keep watching the series, but won't be super sad when I am caught up.

Read: I kept on working on Hunted, but it was moving pretty slow. I went ahead and left it paused while I started The Alice Network for a buddy read with my friend. I hope to finish it up early next week since book club is the 15th and I haven't even started on that book yet! Luckily my friend is a fast reader and she will push me to keep going so that I can discuss the book with her.

Listened: To Jack be so thrilled that the Easter Bunny bought him a Final Four edition basketball in his youth size. I think he thinks they actually used it during the Final Four and who I am to tell him that they didn't. I have no idea what tricks that Easter Bunny has up his sleeve. He hid our eggs extra hard this year. (Thanks to our good friends for taking time out of the Spring Break so that we could come back to a fun egg hunt. It really surprised Jack!)

Made: Myself get back into cooking. It is really hard to get back into the swing of things after having people take care of everything for you on the cruise. It's easy to forget how much work goes into the everyday. I let things slide for most of the week, but by Thursday, we had started to develop our groove again. I even had to write my lesson plans for April because I hadn't done that before I left. At least I got them in before I had to teach them.

Felt: Really cold after Jack's Friday practice. Monday's practice was practically perfect and Wednesday's practice was pretty close but the breeze got a bit chilly. Friday was bone-chilling cold though. It had a gross drizzle that came down and the temperatures were below freezing. I took a picture for Nick at a stop light half way home from practice to show the ice on the windshield. The kids didn't love, but it seemed necessary as Saturday was predicted to be just as cold. Surprisingly, they called the game for icy conditions and let the chess tournament still go on. This means that Jack didn't have to end up missing a game of football after all. He cried happy tears when he found out that news.

Planned: The layout of several more yearbook pages. Even though I was wanting to avoid the "real world", there is a deadline for the yearbook that can't be moved. Things are going pretty well with it. I just have a couple of pages that I still need to get up to the school and take pictures for. It's much easier working on it for the second year in a row and having the support of a staff member makes a big difference.

Loved: That Prairie Hills got second in the ASD20 Chess Tournament. We were hoping to knock off the long standing winners, but they got us by six points. Jack was disappointed with himself getting 8 out of 30th. He knows that he let a kid get him off his game in the last match and I think that it had him more frustrated than anything else. We had an awesome team full of lots of fun people out to support each other. I really enjoyed helping with the chess tournament and hope to continue with it next year.

Watched: The Greatest Showman during one of the dive-in movies on the cruise. It is an mesmerizing film. I am not sure how close to accurate it is, but it does tell a fun show. It is amazing how one man's drive and love for the spotlight created such a world wide phenomena. If you haven't watched it, I would definitely recommend it. Everyone in our family enjoyed it, including Nick who isn't a huge fan of musicals.

Read: I started on As Bright As Heaven. It is by an author I have read a couple other times. It covered a family from around late 1915 to 1930s. It talked a lot about the Spanish Influenza that wiped out a large amount of the population. Since I read it all while we were on the cruise, I wasn't able to google as much I could have to see how much of the story was based on fact. I did enjoy the story although the coincidences that would have to happen to make it all work seemed pretty far fetched. Next I started on Hunted. It is a twist on Beauty and the Beast. I would like to get finished this next week so that I can do a buddy read with my girlfriend. I also have my bookclub book that I will need to get to.

Listened: To some not-so-great singers on the cruise. We tried a couple different shows and didn't really enjoy either one of them. Most of the time it just sounded like they were trying way too hard. I do have to give them credit for being in phenomenal shape because they were able to sing and dance without running out of breath.

Watched: The Jumanji reload. It was pretty funny and enjoyed by both Jack and I. We each liked the characters and the story line. I wouldn’t call it a family friendly movie but it’s great to watch with kids who enjoy older themes. It earns it PG13 rating without pushing the R envelope.

Read: I finished up One True Loves. This was my least favorite novel that I have read by this author. It was still a sweet novel with fun characters that I was quickly drawn into. However, I didn’t find myself savoring every moment. I was happy for the ending and I like that I wasn’t left wondering about how anyone faired. If you want a quick and easy romance, this could be a good one for you. Next I started The Woman in the Window. Thanks to our flight, I was able to finish it. I had a pretty good idea of what was going on, but i still enjoyed the story. If you like stories with unreliable narrators, then this is a must read for you. <span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">Jack and I also finished up <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2839.Bridge_to_Terabithia" target="_blank" style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">Bridge to Terabithia<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">. I hadn't intended to finish it up but it just kind of hit a point where you couldn't turn back. It left a shockwave of emotions running through both Jack and I. He actually asked me if it was possible for your heart to break into two because he was sure his was going rip apart. I knew what was coming since that is it’s main reason for being on the Banned book list. Seeing my son bawl his eyes out for 45 minutes made me understand why someone might think it’s good to remove this pain from a child’s life. However, then they wouldn’t know how much literature can touch you so deeply. We started on The People of Sparks as our next read-aloud. It is the second book in the Book of Ember series. With Spring Break and the cruise, I doubt we will get very much it done at all.

Listened: Jack lead his last fourth grade conference. How is it possible that he will be almost be a fifth grader? He was freshly showered, had combed his hair to the side, and then put on a polo. When you were looking at him. You could really see the teenager he was going to become. He needs to continue to improve in his writing skills, but I think that will come with time. We’ve seen so much improvement over the last two years that if he keeps growing, I know he will totally get it.

Made: Plenty of team mom stuff this week. We finally got the pricing for our decals and spirit wear in. Of course, when it all needs collected, I will be out of town. I made a nicely organized folder for Gretchen to be able to collect everything. We also got our team schedule and found out that we are lucky enough to get six games instead of five! I nicely highlighted the field and time for each kiddo. I also placed our chess t-shirt order and am excited because so many students ordered there ended up being $80 extra dollars for the advisers to use on snacks and drinks for the club. Can't wait to see how the look when I pick them in two weeks!

Felt: Proud of Jack. He was selected as the Star Student of the Month from his teacher for Perservence. I think that this is particularly true for him. I am so glad that other people see this trait in him too. I think that his coaches see it a lot, but I am glad to see that it shows at school too. Funnily enough, his TAG teacher was talking to me that morning about how she saw that in Jack too.

Planned: Most of my vacation wear in one day. I know that might not sound like a lot, but at the beginning of our relationship, I would have my bag packs a week in advance. Over time, it has shrunken down to packing the day we leave or the night before if we are leaving early. I am taking the stuff for three people on a plane. It ended up being a lot of work but at least nothing had to sit folded in the suitcase for too long. It's amazing how your personality evolves over time. I am now just hoping that I didn't forget anything I really wanted and more importantly anything that I can't easily buy if I need too!

Loved: That I have a friends with a variety of skills that will support me. After Jack’s conference, I offered him lunch at Fazoli’s. Luckily, he didn’t take me up on it. Instead as we were heading home, he saw some kids shooting hoops at the park and stopped to play with them. As they were transitioning to another game, I decided I would head home and he could walk when he was done. However, when I went to start the car, I got no crank. Not even a little clicking. It didn’t appear to be the battery as all the lights and radio were coming on. Called Nick and he said by describing the situation, it sounded like the starter or ignition switch. We knew having it towed to a shop was going to be ridiculous, but also that I can’t find a new car that I’m totally in love with. Then I remembered that Luke’s dad is a mechanic and I called Gretchen (Luke’s mom) to see what he thought. He, too, came to the conclusion of starter or ignition switch. He, awesomely, offered to take a look at it and help us out. Thank goodness we pay for tow insurance so I was able to have it dropped off in the garage for him. When we get in the process of towing, the gentleman asks to see what it is doing. I show him, he tries to put on a battery starter, no luck. He hooks it to the chain, goes to start it, and it starts! I'm not kidding...it started! I don't believe it will happen so we have it do it again and again. It always starts. I drive it home and am bewildered. I try to call Nick and discuss it, but he's in a meeting. I decide if it will start again that I will drive to the parts store and get all the possible parts it could be for Luke's dad to try and respect his time. I decide to leave the car running and run it. When I get home for picking up the items, I turn the car off. I realize that I wanted to be further back in the garage to give him more room and when I go to start it, it won't start! Good thing I didn't turn it off at the auto parts store. When Luke's dad was able to make it over, he banged on the starter to see if it would crank and sure enough, it did. I hypothesize that when the tow truck driver was putting the chain on, he knocked the starter with his chain causing the same reaction. He was able to get it chained and stopped one of the reason for the oil leak as an added bonus. I feel so lucky that he was able to take his time after a long day of work to help us out. I know now that my car is getting up there in miles and that I need to make a serious plan about what to do for my next car. I need to work on falling in love with something.

Watched: A Wrinkle in Time. It was bad. Well deserving of it's 4.2 rating on IMDb. They added in scenes that just weren't necessary or entertaining. They created side stories that also just distracted from the original tale. For example, Charles Wallace being adopted. I would not recommend it for classroom viewing after booking reading, unless of course a teacher is trying to show how Hollywood rarely gets a book to movie adaptation right.

Read: I was able to finish up The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This is a coming of age book reminiscent of The Catcher in the Rye. I read it as part of my Banned Books to challenge. I can imagine that some parents would be shocked to see their children reading the sexual discussions and drug usage contained in the book. However I think those are parents that have their head buried in the sand about what their children have already been exposed too. When I finished, I wished this book had been available to me in my late teens as I was dealing with some of the classic struggles that adolescence brings. Next I started on One True Loves. It is written by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It have really enjoyed the other two books of hers that I have read. I am enjoying this one too and have a feeling that I will make my way through her other of couple books sometime as well. I should have it finished up early next week for review. It's a good thing because I have several books coming off hold.

Listened: To Jack’s coach be surprised on Friday that his finger is broken and he hadn't heard about it sooner. By Friday, he wasn't using the tape 100% of the time and forgot to tape it before he headed to practice. About halfway through practice it was throbbing pretty bad so he asked coach if he had any tape. Coach was shocked when he showed him his finger and came over to tell me about it. He was really shocked when he learned it had been much worse earlier in the week. He has made pretty good progress this week. Writing is still a bit painful but he gets there. I am glad he only has three days of school next to not cause him such a pain.

Made: A corned beef brisket roast for St. Patrick's Day. Jack liked the meat okay, but he didn't like any of the cooked vegetables. He found cooked carrots to be the worse. Nick enjoyed the cabbage and beef as carrots and potatoes aren't kept so he left those off. My secret teacher from work also gave us some Irish Soda bread to have with it. It was okay, but a little dry. It is very hard to bake things here at elevation.

Felt: Bummed that I missed the first time in history knocking off a sixteen seed knocking off a one seed. Our book club was on Friday night and we had a really good and really long (well at least for this book club) meeting. I had left my phone in my purse so that I could make sure to focus on the people that I was with and not the games I knew were going on. When I got my phone out of purse to text Nick that I was on my way home, I was surprised to see that it was being blown up with messages from both Jack and Nick to watch the game. I ended up totally missing it. Oh well, at least I was having good conversation with people I don't see very often.

Planned: Cruise packing with Nick. I can't really believe it but next Saturday, Nick will be driving from KC to Houston and Jack and I will be flying out of Denver to meet him there. Then we will set sail for Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. It's going to be amazing. It might be a bit stressful getting packed, the house cleaned, Nora bathed, conferences done, book fair volunteered at, music teacher subbed for, school pictures organized all day on Tuesdaybasketball watched, and football practices attended but I am looking forward to the end result.

Loved: Having Nick home for the week. Its so great to just have a partner to share all the little things with. He is so much better at working on the sill drills that make Jack a better quarterback. Speaking of Jack being a quarterback. It looks like the has won the starting quarterback position for his team. He also asked if coach if he missed the first game for the Chess tournament, would he be able to get his starting position back and Coach said that he most likely would. I love how many things he is passionate about, but it can make him quite busy and sometimes conflicted. He also decided this week that he will be participating in Landsharks, his school's running program, again this Spring. Nick loves being home to see these things. He hopes the project is getting close to a place where he can switch every other week rather than one week here to two weeks there. It's a design build so I know better than to get my hopes up.

Watched: The Emoji Movie with Jack. I didn’t find it all that funny and didn’t see a lot of laughing from Jack either. We tried Mrs. Doubtfire the next night and that didn’t hit his funny bone either. He said it was about as equally good as the Emoji movie. Obviously, I disagree, but at least he got to see a classic.
Read: I finished up Little Fires Everywhere. I liked this book much better than the debut novel by Celeste Ng. I was quickly drawn in by the mystery surrounding each character. I also liked that it was set in 1997, the year I graduated high school. It was easy to place many of the references to the culture of the time. As someone who loves order, I was trying to picture how I would handle living in Shaker Heights. Fairly quick and entertaining read. Next, I started and was able to finish City of Ember. Jack is currently reading it in class and thinks he might select the second one for his next selection in our read together, so I wanted to be caught up with him. I thought it was really good for a dystopian YA book. There isn’t a love story that complicates the book or the lives of readers. I’d recommend to any family of upper elementary, lower middle school looking to do a family read. Jack and I finished up Slacker. We both enjoyed this story. It was funny, but still made you think about life’s priorities. I’m glad he selected it for our read together. It was my pick next so I chose Bridge to Terabithia. Not only is the Battle of the Books book, it also is on Banned Book Challenge List. When I wrote the list, this one seemed to spark a lot of reactions of shock from people. I’ve never read it and don’t know really what it’s about so I am looking forward to get to it. With Spring Break, March Madness, and football practice kicking off again, I’m not sure how fast we will progress through it. I also got just under halfway through The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I am sure that I will finish it up early next week and have a review for you.

Listened: To Jack complain about being frozen after his first football practice. It was cold and windy and a bitter start to football practice. Wednesday was a little better. It was still cold, but at least it wasn’t as windy. Friday night and Saturday were much warmer. You never know what kind of weather you’ll be practicing in during Spring Football. On the plus side, he really seems to enjoy his coaches. Looking forward to seeing what the season brings.

Made: A design for a chess club shirt for kids to wear to the tournament. I am hoping that they are popular with the kids and that we get enough to do an order. I chose the statement on the shirt because someone’s I feel like PHE is the pawn of the District and it’s nice to remind ourselves that the pawn does have the same power as a pawn. Jack informed that he isn’t sure he is going because of the conflict with football. :(

Felt: So refreshed after a haircut. It just was starting to look a bit like a mop so I went in for a trim to give it some shape. I really liked the gal who I found at the SuperCuts because I felt like she listened and tried to do things how I liked them. It doesn’t look a lot different, but I think when I’m ready for a big change she’d help me get it right.

Planned: Out several pages for the yearbook. It is really coming together quite nicely and I am excited to see it in production again. Having a years experience under my belt has made it much easier to know what I want to do and to not get as frustrated as quickly with the program. Working on a Mac has made things a bit different, but I’m coming to terms with those differences. Hard to believe it will be totally wrapped up in a month and a half.

Loved: Jack and I’s fun day Sunday. We started out shopping for new cleats for football and a new baseball glove (not easy for a left handed thrower). We then had lunch at Chipotle. After lunch we went to the batting cages and mini golf. It was windy so there were some wild pitches from the machine. The craziest thing was that a family didn’t close the gate behind and their little 18 month old ran down the ramp and onto the hitting area. The balls kept flying and I was screaming at Jack not to hit them. I was so afraid the kid was going to get beamed in the head with the ball from a machine and die, but luckily he managed to somehow avoid them. I kicked Jack’s butt at golf. I was on fire, golfing only 1 over par. Next, we enjoyed some Rita’s Italian Ice for dessert. I’ve been wanting to try Ticket to Ride, so we stopped by Petrie’s and tried it out. We both really liked it so we rented and played it daily for the three days that we had it checked out. I put it on my birthday list.

Watched: Season finale of Victoria. It was another really enjoyable season. I often found myself googling different things to get the back story of what the history books said on the subject. If you like to follow British Royalty stories, I'd recommend picking up this one. You can find Season 1 for free with Amazon Prime.

Read: I was able to finish up Still Me. Another endearing installment in the Louisa Clark story. I enjoyed this one more than After You, but still not as much as Me Before You. I’m hoping we will get a fourth dose of Louisa so we can see how she keeps maturing. Next, I started my face-to-face book club read, Little Fires Everywhere. It is a very popular book so I had to do it on a Rapid Reads checkout. Sadly, I think I will have to pay some library fines because I won't be able to return it within the 7 days, but it much cheaper than purchasing the book. I didn't get very far into it, but its had good reviews from a couple of my other book clubbers, so I am looking forward to getting into it.

Listened: Boy cry with headache on Monday night. He was up taking a shower and it just him like a ton of bricks. He didn't sleep well and I ended up letting him sleep in and miss the first couple of hours on Tuesday. I think if he hadn't had chess club, he might have skipped the entire day to just recover. Then on Friday evening, I was also struck by a powerful headache. Not sure if it was some type of virus or what, but it knocked me for a loop too. Not fun at all.

Made: A CVS account for pictures of Nick. We were texting and he let me know how much he was missing having pictures of his in office. They didn't really have any Walgreens that he could quickly get to, so I created an account at CVS and uploaded some fun pictures for him. He was quite thankful to have a good assortment of his wife and boy to adorn his office. It was pretty sweet and one of the really tangible ways that he has shown that he misses us while he is away.

Felt: Bummed about getting a crown, but I kind of knew it was coming. I had felt some naggling pain in my back jaw and it turns out I have a cracked tooth that the broken sliver is sitting down in my gums between two teeth. Luckily, they could get me in right away and I should have the permanent crown seated before we leave on our cruise. I didn't really want to take a week long journey with a temporary one on.

Planned: Details for the season ending party for wrestling. I can't believe, but the season is official over. I helped create fun sweatshirts for our state champion wrestlers and come up with the food details of what to feed our guests. It is all coming together very nicely and I am sure the families will have a good time again.

Loved: Watching Jack play with his friends. The weather was absolutely beautiful this week, especially on Friday. He, Luke, and Landon all decided to go the park to hit some balls to each other. Usually when three kids get together, there is quite a bit of trouble with two of them teaming up on the other one, but this all just works out so well. They all have similar enough personalities that they just jibe together. We are grateful that he gets to continue to grow friendships ad many of the kids from his football team will be back together this season. We got the call confirming things are good to go and that he starts practices next Monday!

Watched: Good Place and Atypical. Both of them were great shows and I am thankful for the recommendations of my friends to give them to me. I have quite a bit of reading that I need to do in the next couple of weeks so I doubt that I will get much TV watching in. Plus my regular shows resume so that will take up a good chunk of time. I am looking forward to seeing what the other recommendations are like.

Read: I finished up These Is My Words. For some reason this book was a bit slow for me. While I enjoyed hearing of the struggles that Sarah and her family endured, I was just never drawn into the story. I mostly felt like it was a story that I had heard before. However, I was sad to see it end because I didn’t feel like I was at the end. If you are looking for a good pioneer story, I feel that you would enjoy this one. Next, I started Still Me, which is the third in a series. I only just got a few pages in, but I am hoping to finish it up next week. It will be a bit of a challenge, but hopefully I can rise to it!

Listened: Jack cry when Nora clawed him accidentally. He was messing around with her and she jumped up on his back. She must have been losing her balance on two feet and so she moved her paw to regain and it went in a long movement down his face and across his eye area. Luckily there doesn't seem to be any damage to his sight, but his face sure hurts. I guess she just wanted to make him look tough for his basketball game.

Made: On Monday, the head wrestling coach invited Jack out to see Black Panther. I decided to use that time to make the bags up. Wow! It was a lot longer process than I had imagined. Coach offered for me to bring them to practice so that people could help me, but I knew that I was too anal about the way they were looking to share them with anyone. I love the way that they turned out and I think the families will like them too. There is a picture of one below.

Felt: A bit sad that Jack didn’t do state. So instead, we watched trackcast and were able to see some of his teammates matches. We had to leave for his basketball in the middle of it. When we got back it seemed like many of the matches didn't record because they didn't have the link to watch the videos beside them. I was bummed because that was many of the kids that I wanted to watch as they are kids from my team that I take care of. However, I did get to watch Jack have a good basketball game. His team is really clicking and they get along so well. After the practice, the coach asked me if they were a club team that played together. The idea made me laugh as I am not sure why a club team would ever come play Y-Ball, but it was a nice a compliment. Hard to believe that we only have two more weeks left.

Planned: To be utterly confused by the chess ladder concept that was explained to me, but once I saw it in action, I really liked it. We have seventeen 5th graders in our chess club, so there isn't a good way for them to play each other. Therefore, they have to use this ladder style to determine who they can play. They can challenge anyone that is four spaces above them. If they beat them, they take their place on the ladder and everyone else must move down one. The kids seemed to understand it quickly too and I think they like the visual representation of their status.

Loved: Ladies offering to help with box tops. I had an awkward exchange with our school's coordinator on Thursday which resulted in me counting the box tops for this challenge. It wasn't exactly something I was prepared to do and I loved that when I told people about it that they offered to help me. I gave a huge task to my girlfriend to count her son's class. They ended up winning the contest most likely with a total of 799. It took me long enough to count the other 2200 that I am so glad that I didn't have to count the 799 too! I am hoping the coordinator steps down next year so that I can take it over and have fun contest for the school.
Jack and I both really enjoyed Despicable Me 3 and thought it was much better than the 2nd one in the series. He's pretty into Star Wars again for the moment so he really enjoyed it. Nick wrote me a sweet love letter and looked forward to our trip together over the weekend.
Read: Finished A Wrinkle in Time. This was also a part of my banned books challenge for 2018. This book is the classic battle of good vs evil and love conquering all. I’m not sure why you would ban it for too much or too little religion. I suppose if the teacher were trying to force their religion on you while discussing the book things could get messy. Jack definitely enjoyed it more than I did. Since we both really enjoyed our read aloud time, we decided that we would take turn picking what book we read. Since I picked first, he picked this time. He selected Slacker. The opening chapter was quite hilarious and I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the book develops. Made a bit of progress on These is My Words. I am hoping to be able to have it finished up by next week.

Listened: To Jack complain after his haircut on Monday. He knew that football season was coming up and he needed to get it under control for his helmet. He also was informed that he would have to be showering more often because thick, long hair can get smelly quicker. With the combined forces, he went in for a cut. He was none to thrilled with how short they left. You can see the before and after below. His face really sums up how he felt. I am sure we will be seeing it fluffy again soon.

Made: Bag tag samples for our wrestling bags. I thought it was best to give people a variety of styles to choose from. Everyone came to an agreement pretty quickly and now I just need to get them made. I have forty to do, so I know that I can't put it off very long!

Felt: Bummed that my Lifeproof case wasn't waterproof after all. Shortly after I recorded THIS awesome video, my phone fell all the way in. I wasn't too worried about it, but when I saw water in the case, I kind of freaked out. Turns out that was the right emotion to have. While it still powers on and I didn't lose any of the picture or data on it, it kind of has a mind of its own. We will have to get a new one on Sunday.

Planned: On being close to both the Sand Dunes and the pool with the hotel that the boys picked as my Christmas present. It ended up being about a 35 minutes away from the pool and a little over an hour to the pool. Because the pool didn't open up until one with their winter hours, we went to the Sand Dunes first. What can I say? It's sandy, very sandy. It was also pretty chilly because there was a light breeze and nothing to block it. Jack had a blast playing in the sand. He rolled down the steep dunes several times and even convinced me to roll from about half way. We had sand everywhere and will most likely be finding it for months to come! We also planned on gas being close but we had to drive 40 minutes out of or way just to get gas. The cool thing about our place was that we got to exploring some backroads and see a bunch of Buddhist rock sculptures and some cool views. Jack enjoyed taking some scenic pictures with my phone. I have put some of those below.

Loved: Sand Dunes Recreational Pool. It is so amazingly warm at 98 degrees. It is naturally heated which makes it even more mind blowing. We were there when it was 40 to 50 degrees. Jack and I both thought that 45 was amazing because it made the water feel like such a treat. As it got warmer, it wasn't quite as neat because you didn't get the rush. They had a couple diving boards that Jack did lots of tricks off of. It is a very reasonably priced trip if you are in the area. I'd recommend that everyone take a least a day trip down there to enjoy. If you decide to stay overnight, I'd either book in the cabins there or Center, CO!

Watched: The Super Bowl. I came down with a cold and I wasn't feeling especially excited about it, but it was fun to just sit around around and root for the Patriots too lose. If the Eagles would have made that first down and not had to kick the field goal, Nick would have won a square in his office pool. But alas, it didn't happen. I was glad to see the Patriots not get another win. Because I wasn't feeling great, we didn't have any big spread, but Nick made himself Hotwings and me a bowl of tomato soup and grilled cheese. Jack went with a Tositno's cheese pizza and several Sprites.

Read: <span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">I finished up The Bean Trees in plenty of time for book club. I’m really surprised at how much I liked this book. I read it for my face-to-face book club and I was kind of dreading it because it felt like having teeth pulled to finish The Poisonwood Bible. In The Bean Trees, I was introduced to characters I wanted to root for! There isn’t a lot of conflict, but I still found myself drawn to the story. I’m glad it wrapped up like it did. If you want a story where the characters are more important than the plot, I would recommend picking up this one. I didn't have any books come off hold soI decided to look through my TBR list and found Sam's Letters to Jennifer. I put it on the list almost 5 years ago and decided I would mark it off. This is book was a quick and sweet story about the enduring power of love. Great for a quick Valentine’s read. Next I started These Is My Words. Again, this another book that I have had on my TBR list for a long time. I marked this one almost 6 years ago. I really slowed down my reading and am just barely at the beginning of it.

Listened: To Jack tell me he was ready for wrestling to be over. The practices are long and hard and have been going for a little over 5 months. He knows he isn’t doing any more tournaments and so he is ready to wrap up. He knows that he has to complete his commitment even though he is tired. It will sure make football practice be so much easier than most kids.

Made: Champions of Character poster for our wrestling club. I really liked how it turned out. I saw they saying on a Facebook post and sent it to the head coach. We both thought it sent the message that our club tries to convey to all its wrestlers. They kids will be getting this as a poster rather than a cinch bag for the first level of Champions with Character.

Felt: Thankful for a handy husband who is able to do things around the house. Before the Super Bowl on Sunday, he took apart Jack's treadmill and took it to the basement where he had to run some new electrical to give it an outlet to run on. Then he installed a ceiling light in Jack's bedroom. It is so nice to be able to have some decent light in his room.

Planned: On it snowing in the afternoon of tournament and only giving us an inch. I know I shouldn't listen to the predictions or models. It was flurrying by 6:00am and really snowing by 7:00am. We ended up getting around 3 inches. It made for some interesting events at the tournament with refs not showing up, people wanting hot coffee like it was the best thing on earth. and not as many people coming out to support their wrestlers. However, we covered it all and came out looking awesome. I did a rough tally on Saturday night and we earned about $2500 for the club. I am pretty excited by that. It's a lot of work, but that's a lot of profit to help support our Champions with Character program. I ended up scoring the mat Jack was on. He won all 5 of his matches. You can watch them HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Loved: Having Nick home the whole week. We had a lot going on so we didn't get a ton of downtime together, but it is just so nice to have your partner around to support your everyday life. Someone to help your clear the kitchen dishes after dinner and someone to scratch your back when it itches. I always forget during the long stretches how nice it is to have him home. We are looking at starting him being gone for two week stretches pretty consistently through the month of March. No one is really looking forward to it, but it will be nice for him to not have to drive and to be able to focus on his work without worrying about getting in time with his family too. We are looking forward to him coming home next weekend for our trip down to the Sand Dunes.

Watched: The first couple episodes of The Good Place. Since I had wrapped up the series Hart of Dixie, I was looking for a show me to watch in my down time. I especially like having something to watch while I eat lunch. I went to Facebook and got lots of recommendations. I wasn't sure which one to watch first so I put them all into a hat and drew out the The Good Place. It is right up my alley. The way that her cuss words get altered to be things the Ashhole and Fork really endeared me to the show. It's only a couple of seasons into production so it won't be very long before I back at the hat again finding a new show, but I am looking forward to this one.

Read: I finished up My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward. If you love someone who struggles with mental illness, you may identify with the author. He doesn’t make himself out to be a wonderful human being. Most of the time, he paints himself to be quite the ass. If you are having feelings of guilt during your partners break from reality, this book would show you that you aren’t alone in feeling that way. I am also very curious about where their money came from that allowed them so much downtime during each of her episodes. I feel fortunate that love my life has never left me to experience the psych ward. Next, I blew through Eliza and Her Monsters. I found this book on the recommendation of a friend. It made her Top 5 books from 2017. I can see why she loved it so much. The characters (in all the worlds) draw you and make you anxious to know more. Excellent YA material. I was also able to read the novella, Gwendy's Button Box. It was entertaining and thought provoking. What would you do if you had a button box with the power to destroy whatever you wanted? I am sure that I would become addicted to the exquisite chocolates such a box would provide too. Next I started The Bean Trees which was this month's selection for my face-to-face book club. While I made good progress on it, I don't have it wrapped up for a review yet.

Listened: Growling dogs as Nora and her friend Sadie had a blast playing with each other. Sadie’s family went skiing for the weekend and so we got to dogsit. They both had a great time running around chasing each other and looking like wild animals as they played with one another.

Made: Everyone gather around for a picture with our PTA membership award. It is exciting that we have grown our membership enough to have qualified for the award. We had a pretty good group show up to our PTA meeting and the photo was well received on Facebook. I’m going to kind of miss running the page when I step off the board.

Felt: Amused by the outfits Jack and his friend came up with for basketball practice. Jack went upstairs to get changed for practice and said he was coming down fancy. He came down wearing shorts, a polo, his jersey, and a clip on tie. I busted a gut. Too make things all that much better, his friend requested a tie so that they could match. They went to practice like that and wore it the entire time. It was quite the hoot.

Planned: Tournament shopping list for our concession stand. We kept a pretty good quantities list after last year, so it wasn't too hard to do. I was glad to hear that Nick could keep driving up the company car and we wouldn't have to load and unload it a couple of times before the tournament!

Loved: Nick coming home. He got home early Thursday evening in time for a quick kiss before I headed off to the PTA and he took Jack to wrestling practice. He did get to enjoy both wrestling and basketball. Jack had an amazing day of wrestling winning 3 out 4 matches and losing his only match by 1 point. It must have been a pretty even bracket because it somehow worked out that even with that record, he got third place. His whole team played amazingly well and won something like 34-6. We enjoyed just being together and knowing that he didn't have to leave on Sunday night or Monday morning made it even more of a treat. He gets to be a home an entire week thanks to the Board of Directors meeting that is being held in Denver that he is presenting at. It will be a week full of tournament preparations, but I will just be so glad to him next meet even for only a few minutes a night.

Watched: Hidden Figures with Jack. I was very disappointed in the movie. The really altered the time line of events and lessened, I thought, the struggle that these women had to endure. I did like that they chose to focus only on the three main characters. While there could have been such a good showing of the way that the women pushed forward past the gender and race stereotypes, it ended up just being a rather boring movie. Jack couldn't make it awake for the entire thing and I found myself longing for the end. While it received high ratings on both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb, I would not recommend it.

Read: I finished up Hidden Figures. Overall, I would say that this book was interesting, but a bit repetitive. I felt the book could have been condensed down and made a bit more straightforward. She often got off on side tangents which didn’t do much for the story. If you enjoyed The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, you would probably enjoy this story as well. I started reading A Wrinkle in Time with Jack. Since we are doing a read-aloud it will take several days to complete it and I wouldn’t be looking for a review anytime soon. That being said, I think we are both really enjoying and I am glad that I chose do it as a read-aloud with him. The next book I started was another non-fiction, My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward. Luckily, it's a pretty engrossing read because I had another book come off my holds list and I still have to read my book club book for the month of February, so I need to get through it quickly.

Listened: Myself tell Nick to stay in KC. When I called him on Wednesday to discuss the options Jack and I had for flying out for our cruise, we got talking about what his travel schedule would look like. He mentioned he wasn't going to be able to get out of there until after 10am on Friday and would need to leave Sunday afternoon to get back. I couldn't see him driving all that way to be home and awake for about as many hours as it took him to drive here and back. He didn't want to admit it, but he knew that I was right. Jack didn't want to wrestle without Nick in his corner, so we chose basketball instead. I watched some of it from behind the iPhone lens so that Nick could see it too. You can watch it HERE.

Made: Referee circles for our upcoming tournament. It drives me nuts how a ref puts their fingers behind their back and then asks the kids to guess and no one is quite clear on who is choosing. Have a red/green coin is much easier. We looked at purchasing them but for a professional quality, the cheapest we could find was $4 each. So I found that I could buy plain coasters on Amazon for $6 for 50 of them. I then bought some red and green acrylic paint and cheap foam brushes and was in for $8 total. They turned out pretty good. There are a couple that have the edges blurred with the other paint color, but for $8, I’m calling it a win.

Felt: Loved by good snuggling girl. I laid down on the floor to watch some football in front of the fireplace and Nora just snuggled up on me. She kept trying to laying her head on my head. On about the third time, I took a picture to show to Nick. She’s quite the character and always follows me around to lay near me. She is really a good dog and quite the mama’s girl.

Planned: On Nick being home this weekend, but when we were talking about plane flights for our cruise, we got discussing what the next few weeks looked like. It didn’t really make a ton of sense for him to drive home as he was really only going to be here and awake for as many hours as he spent driving. Jack’s basketball game conflicted with wrestling, so he chose basketball instead so that Nick wouldn’t have to miss out again. While he hates missing basketball, it isn’t quite as painful. We are hoping that this means he will be able to get home earlier next week and he’ll be home the following week because they have a board of directors meeting here in the Springs that he will be presenting at. It’s pretty exciting to think we will have him home for a whole 7 days!

Loved: Sharing games with our friends. On Friday night, we hosted Mindy, Landon, and Braydon. We played Bounce Off, Catan, Ping Pong, and Tripoley. We stayed pretty busy for all 3.5 hours that they were over here. I think we might host again this Friday since our schedule keeps us otherwise engaged for two Friday's after that. On Saturday night, we invited over Jack's friend Luke so that we could have a third player for Catan. Luke wasn't sure what to think of it in the beginning, but by the end he just loved it! I love that Jack loves playing games and has the competitive streak that runs so strongly between Nick and I.

Watched: Jack wrestle without Nick as his coach. He wasn't thrilled to be missing his dad on his side. Luckily, both Coach Sean and Coach Ryan were there for him almost every match. We have amazing coaches who realize how important that it is a kid has a bond with this coach and just doesn't take instruction from him. You can see at the beginning of his last match that neither coach was able to be there and he was very upset about it. When Coach Sean sat beside me, I told him to make sure that Jack knew he was there. It might sound harsh, but it was Jack needed to turn that match around. He had a very physical day of wrestling and you can watch his five matches HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Read: I finished up Glass Sword on Sunday morning. I’m just not sure what I think of this book. I’m positive that I don’t like line “Anyone can betray anyone”. I’m glad that I have a decent waitlist until the third book because I almost think of through my Kindle in frustration if I read that line again too soon. I’m thinking the next book could be pretty good. I’m committed now so I guess I’ll have to see what the rest of the story holds. Next I read Twist since it had came off my hold list. This was a pretty good follow up to the first work in the series, Dirty. You are introduced to a new main character and one of the side characters from the first book took main stage with her. It was a sweet romance with plenty of hot and heavy scenes thrown air. I’ll be looking for the third book soon. Next I started Hidden Figures since the audiobook came off my hold list as well. I’m barely started but it’s an interesting look in on a part of a history that I’m not familiar with.

Listened: To one three-year-old question my outfit on PJ Day at work. Two out of the four classes decided to move their PJ day which did make my outfit seem a bit out of place for those classes. One of the fashion forward girls looked at me and asked if I really wore my pajamas to school. When I explained that it was pajama day, but her teacher had changed it, she informed that class before them wasn't wearing pajamas either. I couldn't disagree but I told her when she left she should see if that class had their PJs on. She just smiled like she was appeasing a crazy old lady and I just laughed. Luckily the next class was wearing their pajamas so maybe I regained some of my street cred with her. Haha

Made: Cakes for Jack's birthday. I am not sure what happened but they didn't turn out in my usual style. I think I might need to get a over thermometer because they cooked way to fast. It also felt like the pan I used was bigger than normal. They came out dry, but the kids enjoyed them. The decorating them was harder this year, but I am still proud-ish of my job. Jack liked the way that they looked and that's really all that matters. Next year, I will try to do things different so that I can give him a nice moist cake again.

Felt: Glad that we have such awesome friends. When we were leaving basketball practice on Friday, Landon and Jack were trying to get to spend more time together. Since they already had family game night planned, it didn't work for what the boys were thinking. However, Mindy invited us over and we all had a blast. She even cooked a yummy dinner of steak sandwiches and we had s'mores for dessert. We then had a long game on Monopoly. It came down to Landon and I and we could have went for a long time more, so I suggested just doing a roll off to see one. I think we will try to keep this going by inviting them to our house in two weeks.

Planned: Not getting stranded in Manitou when we went there so that Jack could show his Kyle and Jess the mineral springs, the candied popcorn, and do the Incline with them. After we walked around enjoying the first two, we left the kids so they could head for their assent and we went down to enjoy some brunch. When we got the call that they were headed down, we went up to the top of the lot to pick them up again. The length of the decent was blurred in Nick's mind and so we sat waiting. As we did, he turned on the car to set up his bluetooth device that I got him. Both of us forgot the moment at my mom's where I turned the car on and off quickly and needed a jump. Well the same thing happened again. We called a guy to come out and jump us. He apparently drove to the area and some other couple in a white vehicle was having a hard time and shooed him away and he thought it was us. So he came back out and finally got us jumped. Nick said the battery was awfully low, so we had to head to the auto part store before enjoying our HuHot dinner on Jack's last day being nine.

Loved: Celebrating Jack’s birthday with him. After getting to sleep in, he was able to open all of his presents from the family. I think he was most excited about his 5lb gummy bear. It was pretty ridiculous but Nick says that what birthdays are for and so we went for it. He got a lot of other enjoys too, but I think that one hit the spot. His party guest began to arrive about 12 and they spent the first half hour waiting for everyone to arrive and just having fun with each other. The first game on the party docket was the Gross Soda challenge. You can see how awful the butter one tasted by looking at Kyle's face in the picture featured underneath. After the game was over Two and Aunt Jess had to head back to Alliance as Jess was leaving for a conference in Dallas the next day. We then enjoyed pizza and presents. He got 3 balls, 2 nerf guns, and 1 game from his friends. I'd say that they know hime pretty well. Next they went into Nerf Hide and Seek. That game was wildly popular and resulted in what I am sure will be me finding darts for ages. Next the played Giant Cup Pong. It was a lot longer game than I thought it would be, but all the kids enjoyed it. They realized they could get their booties stuck in them. It was all fun and games until Jack rolled over his thumb while stuck in it. He was pretty upset and I was kind of worried it might be broken with the swelling. (It was just a deep cut with some swelling!) To give him time to recover, we tried the Top Ramen tasting challenge. That one was quite hard for them. They ended the party with a game of Water War. It is played like neighbor except the high card gets to pour water on the head of the low card. All the kids seemed to really enjoy it. After the party was over, Nick to Rylan home and then headed out to KC for the next two weeks. We let Landon stay over until 5:30. I thought we were going to the Melting Pot for dinner, but Jack looked like he was about to zone out on the drive down there. I didn't want to spend Melting Pot money for him to not fully enjoy it so I offered him an out. He took it and we went and got Chick-fil-a and a movie instead. We watched both Underdog and Spider-Man: Homecoming. He got to stay up late since it was his birthday. I think he had a great day and I am lucky that we got to celebrate it with so many people.

Watched: The boys rock the day on Sunday completing so many things from my honey-do list. With such a busy Saturday, we had a lot of things we wanted to do. The major one was getting the vanity that the boys bought me for Christmas. I really love the idea of storage in the bathroom. I won’t get to know until next week because Jack asked me to wait so that it would be a good spot for Nerf Hide-n-Seek during his party. Nick worked pretty non-stop to help me out. I’m thankful

Read: I continued to work more on the Glass Sword. I didn't quite get it finished, but should definitely wrap it up early next weeks. It's not the greatest of books. I think it may be one of those trilogies where they are read spread out. I am several down in the holds list for the third book, so I am thinking that's a really good thing

Listened: To a lot of people cheer for Jack during his tournament this weekend. Our team section was very close to Jack's mat and a lot of people cheered him during his matches. You will see he was very close during Match 1, but their weight difference was just too much for Jack to be able to roll him. In Match 2, he kind of threw the poor kid around like a rag doll. It was fun to watch, but it wasn't much of a challenge. Match 3 was a rematch against a kid who he has had some other matches against and whose coach is always complementary of Jack. It was hard fought and you can see the poor kid give up right at the end. In Match 4, Jack was the rag doll. It was hard to watch, but it's good for him to know that there are still a lot of moves that he can learn. If you click on the Match number, you can see the videos.

Made: A reading challenge of Banned Books with my online reading group. I selected the following 10 books and while they are number 1-10, they are in no particular order.

1). Make Something Up: Stories You Can't Unread
2). The Perks of Being a Wallflower
3). And Tango Makes Three 4 stars
4). Beloved
5). The Giver
6). The Handmaid's Tale
7). Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
8). A Wrinkle in Time
9). The Things They Carried
10). Bridge to Terabithia

I also finished my first book for the challenge, And Tango Makes Three. I didn’t realize it was a children’s book. I just saw that it was consistently in the ALA’s top 10 list so I added it to my challenge list.

I’m trying to picture my reaction if Jack brought home this book from his school library when he was younger. I’m quite certain that I would be shocked, but then I think it would be an awesome opportunity to discuss that all families are different. I am really amazed that it is based on a true story and I think that should call into question a lot of people beliefs. I assume that’s why it is frequently challenged is that adults can’t handle their beliefs being challenged. It’s very clear where the book was going. If you weren’t prepared to handle the subject matter with our children, change the words. The kids will never know. If your child has read it without you and has questions, simply tell them you’ll talk about it later. I can’t imagine asking a library to remove this from their shelves as it could be impactful to a child living in a same sex home.

Jack's reaction to this book being banned: Why was this book banned? How can people hate this book? It’s based on a true story.

Felt: Bummed about mom's work schedule. Due to an increase in their workload, the BNSF has fallen behind on repair of the motors. This forced them to announce a mandatory 6 day work week with no vacation. Mom was planning on coming here for Jack's birthday, but she is no longer able too. She will just have to try to make it down another weekend to play with us! It's hard to schedule random weekends in the winter though. On the plus side, the kids were able to drive during the day and made it here in time to take Jack to weigh-ins after basketball. After I got the three boys to practice, I headed out so that I could help with weigh-ins for our Southern Regional Tournament. We enjoyed a nice night of tacos and games before turning in early-ish for the tournament.

Planned: On Nick wiping our old Windows computer, but instead he moved it downstairs and hooked it up to the basement TV and taught Jack how to run the emulator on it. Jack has really enjoyed getting to play the old school games. Tecmo Super Bowl, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario Brothers are his favorite. I introduced him to one of my favorites in Bubble Buster Bros and he didn't like it nearly as much as I did. I was thinking about how amazing it would have been to be able to play the games on such a big clear screen. You would have been the hit of the neighborhood.

Loved: Creating all Jack's party games. The one game he was sure everyone had to play was Giant Cup Pong as that was the first Team Edge video he had ever watched. While they use large trash cans, we went with 5 gallon buckets. It worked really well and we tested it out several times. Its much like beer pong, but instead of having to drink, you have to do the punishment that is at the bottom of the bucket that your opponent makes. He also has several other games planned like Nerf Hide-n-Seek, Nerf Hangman Roulette, a gross soda Challenge, a Top Ramen tasting challenge, What's in the Box challenge, a basketball challenge. He has so many that I'm sure we won't get to them all, but it will be fun trying! I'll let you know how it all went down next week.
A puzzle we did over Christmas break. Jack wouldn't let us take it apart until we got a selfie with it. That was a bit more work than you might think, but we got it done and I was able to finally break apart the puzzle,

Watched: Jack wrestle. It was a big improvement over his last tournament, but he is definitely having hard time adjusting to the higher weight and older age group that 10U brings. He ended up getting third in a 5-man bracket. You can see his matches HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Read: <span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">I finished up Running Barefoot. This was a very fast reading book, but it was a little heavy on the faith aspect for me to enjoy it as a romance. Nice and easy book to end the year with. I also read Red Queen this week. I'm not really sure how this book garnered the 2015 Goodreads award or continues to have such overwhelming popularity. It is very much written in the same lines as Hunger Games or Divergent. I will read at least the next book in the series, Glass Sword, because I have already borrowed it from my local library in anticipation of loving this one. Maybe I'm just in a different place than I was when I read Hunger Games and Divergent, but I just didn't love it as much. I think how easily Mare was manipulated was really a sticking point for me.

Listened: To Nick hammer away in his garage after the Chiefs blew a 21-3 lead in the playoffs. It was pretty heartbreaking for him. I can't believe that they managed to let such a large lead slip away. He did have to recover pretty quickly because we had the KU game to watch that night as well. They, too, got out to a pretty large lead that they let slip away. Luckily, the managed to pull off an on-the-road victory at a top 25 school to save Nick from double heartbreak. I am not sure how he would have taken it.

Made: A large honey-do list for Nick when he gets home. He hasn't been home since the 21st of December and several of my Christmas presents were projects that he will have to work on. For the first time in his work history, we had to miss the company party. We had plans to go, but with the Chiefs game, KU game, wrestling, and so many projects we just decided to skip it. Ryan came over after wrestling on Saturday and helped knock out a couple of the things on the list by helping us pull down the lights off the roof and working with Nick to install my fireplace blower. I am so excited that fireplace blower works so. It makes it more than just a little decorative piece. It can actually boost the entire living rooms temps now! Ryan also helped us bring home a treadmill. Someone in our neighborhood group was selling it for $40! Jack loves the one at my mom's so we bought it as an early present for him.

Felt: Happy that was Nora was so excited to see me when we picked her from Mindy's on Monday. She was pretty jubilant to know that we had returned. I think she was ready to go back to being in a one-dog household. Its fun to play with friends and all, but they get exhausting. She is finally getting the hang of her bed that we got her for Christmas. She wasn't really sure what to do with it, but seems to have figured it out.

Planned: Jack's party. He has a lot of big ideas but I think its going to be a lot of fun. He is doing a party based off two You Tube channels, Battle Universe and Team Edge. We have several fun games on the line up and a good group of boys coming over to be his team. Ideally, I will be able to record it and post it to YouTube so he can relive the memories whenever he wants.

Loved: Breaking in the New Year with my boys and Roy and his boys. We spent a lot of the evening with the boys messing around more in the workout room. At about 11:30, we went out to play some Monopoly Gamer. There was a group of people playing spoons, a large number of people going out for a Midnight Run (and it was so, so, so cold!) and one family with a sweet little 2 year old. When people came back in from their run, we cheered them in and we let the two year old play with us and see her sweet face as we cheered. Keegan complimented one of the spoons players on her fancy red slippers and she gave them to him (and everyone wanted them) when she left. After we done with our game, we went back up the room and played some more Wii. Roy and his boys left about 2:30 and Jack and I stayed up until around 4:00 playing together. It made for a long drive home the next day.

Watched: A Colorado College basketball game with Jack. Since we were not able to go 2 weeks ago because of his illness, we headed down there this week. It was a good time. Almost no one was there. We got great seats and they let the kids shoot on the hoops at half time. Jack was frustrated because the coach only played six players and two of his favorites from his basketball camp sat on the bench.
Read: I was able to finish up, in large part due to audiobook, The Things We Keep. I was not a big fan of this book. I just found it a little predictable and slow paced. There wasn't a lot of substance to the characters either. If you are looking for some chick lit to just take you away for a couple of days, I suppose this isn't the worst thing you could stumble upon, but I wouldn't recommend picking it up otherwise. Since I didn't have anything coming off my holds shelf or any buddy reads going on, I went through my long list of books that our on my shelves and selected Running Barefoot as my next book. It's been on TBR list since March of 2013! I’m already over three quarters of the way done and am enjoying it. I’m sure to have a review to start off the New Year.

Listened: To a lot of Pandora in 2017. According to the graphic they sent me, I’ve listened for 11,015 minutes which equates to 183 hours of music. That’s almost three hours a week just jamming out. I usually don’t listen to Pandora when I drive because of the data factor either. Music just speaks to me and I have so many different songs for different moods and times in my life. This is the first year that I have caught Jack singing along with me to a lot of the carols. I hope that music will be that safe place for him too.

Made: The drive to Wichita on Friday so that we could spend New Years Eve with Nick and see Roy and our nephews. Nick had to head to KC on the 26th and needed to spend more time there so we decided we would come to him. It was a nice uneventful drive. We beat Nick by almost an hour and so Jack had time to hook up his Wii and we played some Frogger. Luckily Nick made it in time to play a game of cutthroat pitch before the Jayhawk game tipped off because Jack had been jonesing to play all day long. After the game was over, everyone headed down to the exercise room to mess around where they didn’t have to be reminded not be noisy. They all had so much fun in there. Some sort of dodgeball with a basketball broke out and I tried to capture a picture. They actually requested the workout room again, twice, on Saturday too. Clearly they didn’t exercise enough as they were up well into New Years Eve. Such fun memories they are making.

Felt: Excited about my excellent score of wrapping paper. Walgreens carries Hallmark paper and it’s just so nice and thick that I wanted to make sure to get some on clearance this year. I went in the day we got home and scored 11 rolls of wrapping paper. I was pretty thrilled. I’ll probably try to go in next week to see if there is any of the styles I didn’t get for a steeper discount!

Planned: On Landon spending the night on Thursday after he came to the basketball game with us, but his mom texted on Wednesday that he wasn’t feeling great and that she had the flu. With our impending trip, I didn’t want to take the risk and so I canceled. Jack was less than thrilled with me, but that’s parenting. We are hoping that we can get one night in next week before break ends.

Loved: Getting to spend my brother’s 28th and Christmas with my family. We started Christmas Eve off celebrating Kyle. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around him being the same age I was when I was pregnant with Jack. I was worried that both my gifts were going to be busts but they ended up being fine. After spending the afternoon with us, they went in for crab legs with the Hare’s. While they were gone we played some cutthroat pitch and ate our traditional pizza. When they got back, we started on presents around 9pm. First we had our White Elephant gift exchange. Jack’s gift went to Aunt Jess who shared her new ball with Olive, her niece. Jack ended up with a trivial pursuit game. I ended up with new knives. Jack opened his dry erase spin wheel and we used that as a determiner of who opened the next gift. I love that we all don’t just rip in but we celebrate each individual item. Jack was pretty pooped by the time we ended around 2am. We all slept in and opened Santa gifts later. Jack was bummed that no one understood how important that 2lb Gummy Bear was. We were all excited that Santa brought us another cruise. It looks like we will be going out of Galveston around Spring Break! He also brought us two family games in Suspend and a new HeroQuest like game. We dove right into Suspend because it’s an easy to learn, hard to master type game. We didn’t try the other one yet.

Watched: The Last Jedi with my boys. We were able to go Sunday after the Christmas wrestling party since we had watched all of our sports on Saturday. It was an excellent movie. I find the I am generally a big fan of the 2nd movie in any trilogy and this was proved to be no exception. The boys enjoyed it so much that they went back on Tuesday night and watched it again. It's hard to beat the big screen for Star Wars movies.

Read: I finished up Every Time I Think of You. I didn't love this as much as I did her original work, On The Island. However, it was a fast paced easy read. It's rather predictable, but I still enjoyed getting to know Daisy and Brooks. I was annoyed by Elliot as I didn't feel he was written as a typical child. He had the speech pattern of a toddler and the thought process of a tween. Next I started The Things We Keep which was selected as the January book for my face-to-face book club. It's okay, but it's not really drawing me in.

Listened: To a bunch of thank you's for planning the wrestling Christmas party. We have such a great club full of great kids and nice parents. I was even gifted a couple of Christmas presents including a bottle of wine. Jack made bank from the claw machine winning a giant ball and giant stuffed snake on the same pull! I even played one game of laser got and got whooped up on since I had a gaggle of small wrestlers who were following me around making me one giant beacon.

Made: Christmas Cookies with my family. I love this fun tradition that we all have. This year the stores were all out of traditional coloring and my mom put way too much Wilton's food coloring into the batches and so we had some teeth staining cookies! Nonetheless, they were amazing to eat to breakfast (another fun tradition!).

Felt: Glad that I packed our winter gear for our trip to Alliance. The forecast had called for a little snow each day, but we ended up with a lot. I had Jack try on his snow boots and while he said that they fit fine, Nick decided that they looked to small. So before we left we had brunch at Wade's Cafe and headed over to Big 5 to buy some new snow boots for him. He went up three sizes, so I'm not sure how his foot even fit in the other boot! On Saturday, Jack convinced his two to go out and play football in the snow with him. We bundled them up and sent them outside. They spent about a good half hour out there. My sister-in-law went outside and took some fun pictures. She got a lot of amazing ones of Nora, but I only put one on here for you. When they came inside to warm up, Kyle realized that while he had taken everything else out of his pocket, he hadn't taken out his keys with his work key on it. He looked on his own for a while before I bundled myself up and headed out to help. I was the lucky winner and found his keys for him after only about 10 minutes of searching. It seemed like a fair exchange for the snow bowl he played with Jack.

Planned: Santa's gift. We had a hard time coming up with something to get Jack from Santa so we settled on another cruise. He had asked for one and Nick thinks he can get time off around Spring Break so we went for it. While the boys were at Star Wars, I went to Michael's and found four nesting boxes that will each be wrapped and put in each other. In each box there will be a photo placed until we get the middle when we reveal that we got another cruise. I hope he is excited. I know I am!

Loved: Getting to spoil Jack this week. I know how lucky I am just to get to be able to be a stay-at-home mom. But when you add in that I get to take him and do fun things over all his break, it's just the most amazing thing ever. On Monday, we finished up shopping for his gifts for people and then headed back to the Summit (where they had their wrestling party) for unlimited laser tag. It was a good thing we got there right when it started because by the time we left three hours later it was jam packed. The manager had given me some free playing cards for booking the party there and so they had money to spend on some arcade games in between rounds. Jack earned enough tickets to buy a dodgeball to put into the white elephant exchange. On Wednesday, we went to the North Pole with friends and had a great time riding all the rides, watching the magic show, checking out the shops, and eating some good food. I'm thrilled that his break got to be such a fun time for him and it was all about enjoying himself and having a good time with friends and family.
